Happy Children

Help for Children & Teens

As parents and care-givers, we lose our footing when our children are struggling, it can be a very scary and concerning time. We want you to know that support is available. You have a Safe Talk Space where you can regain your footing, learn skills that address the issues that have led to disconnection in your family. You don’t have to go it alone.

Our clinicians support you by a focus on working towards an optimistic future, developing positive coping methods, as well as boosting self-esteem, self-confidence, and other positive states and traits in children. We understand just how important your child is to you and we take special care to earn your trust. We also know that the ability to form a close and connected relationship with your child is one of the best ways that we can help your child grow.

We Can Help

In therapy, kids learn by doing. With younger kids, this means working with the whole family, drawing, playing, and talking. For older kids and teens, therapists share activities and ideas that focus on learning the skills they need. They talk through feelings and solve problems. Children are a bit different than adults and symptoms of mental health disorders can easily be overlooked

Safe Talk Space therapists give praise and support as kids learn. They help kids believe in themselves and find their strengths. Therapy builds helpful thinking patterns and healthy behavioral habits.

Here are a few symptoms that could represent a mental wellness issue:

  • Irritability

  • Anger

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Anxiety/fearfulness

  • Pessimism/negative outlook

  • Grades dropping or more difficulty completing assignments

  • Conduct problems at school

  • “Acting out”

  • Arguing with family members

  • Limited or no invitations from friends

  • Difficulty separating, going to school, clinginess

  • Risk-taking (smoking, drinking, sexual promiscuity)

  • Appetite changing suddenly

  • Difficulty managing responsibilities or staying organized

  • Difficulty making and maintaining friendships

  • Significant rigidity, bossiness, inflexibility, “need to be right”

  • Talk about death, suicide or violence

Life’s Transitions

Children can also benefit from having a Safe Talk Space to process when life transitions are not in their control:

  • Divorce

  • Illness in family

  • Death of a loved one

  • Parent marrying a new partner

  • Moving to a new neighborhood, school etc.

  • Sibling with a disability

Sometimes, entire families need support while trying to communicate, learn, and create boundaries. We are here to support your child to learn healthy and practical coping skills that will serve them for their lifetime.
