Before your first session
Before coming in for your first session please register use "Q" our Chatbot or through our HIPAA compliant secure client portal, and complete both the required forms.
When this first session is complete you and your clincian will decide together how to proceed, what areas to address going forward. Generally, the first 3 – 4 sessions are used to establish a plan of treatment.
When providing couple or family therapy we may meet individually with each member of the family to solicit feedback and finalize plans for treatment. At this point services are implemented to address the identified challenges.The length of treatment can vary, its specified to your needs.
How our time in therapy unfolds
It is common to be apprehensive about the first session. However, we specialize in creating a safe, accountable and nurturing space that helps calm those fears quickly. We will give you our undivided attention during each of your sessions. We are committed to creating an "sanctuary" where you feel safe, empowered and heard. We process information, construct well-informed goals and work through any challenges to achieving them.
This is your time and as such is customized based upon your desired outcome. Typically, the first several sessions are devoted to building rapport and gathering information. We understand that concerns and goals sometimes shift a bit and deepen over time as you feel safer and more comfortable with me. Much of the focus of the first sessions will be getting to know each other, sharing your presenting problem, assessing, and mutually exploring therapy/health goals.
Many clients choose to bring paper or a notebook to sessions. This is optional but useful.take home activities. You will often be given something to think about or practice in between sessions.
If you are new to therapy, nerves are normal. But don’t worry, we are committed to making this a safe environment.
You will join your therapist in one of our comfortable treatment rooms or online. Basically, our first session is about getting to know one another so that we can help you as quickly as possible. You may be asked some questions. Some are to gather information necessary so that your health insurance will cover your treatment. Other questions will be related to what you need us to know about you and what is happening in your life. We will use this information to guide our sessions.
You may ask us anything. We will answer any questions you may have about us, our experience and what you can expect in future appointments. We want you to feel comfortable.
Therapy sessions are typically 50-75 minutes. However, some families and couples benefit from being treated for 75 minutes.
Choosing the Right Therapist
It’s important that you feel comfortable with your therapist. If you didn’t make a connection or aren’t comfortable for any reason, please let us try again. We know we have the right therapist for you. Don’t give up on therapy just because you didn’t quite fit with your first therapist. Let us help match you.
A valid credit card is required to reserve your session times even if you are using insurance to pay for services. All payments must be made before sesions begin by paypal, cash, check or credit/debit card.
We want your experience of therapy to be EASY. One of the ways we do that is to help you navigate the insurance maze. We will check your benefits, explain them to you, help you predict what your costs may be, and get you scheduled, bill your insurance company and work hard at reimbursement.
However, remember you are still reponsbile for all charges if your insurance comapny fails to authorize reimbursement, and for any NCNS or misc. administrative fees.
